Cardiology care for East Los Angeles and the Eastside
If your primary care doctor at AltaMed or White Memorial flagged a borderline EKG, if you’ve had chest pressure after a shift on Whittier Boulevard, or if you were discharged from a local ER with a note to follow up — our Beverly Hills office is about 20 minutes west of East LA on the 10.
East LA carries one of the highest cardiovascular risk burdens in the county. Type 2 diabetes prevalence runs well above the LA average, hypertension is common starting in the 40s, and many of our East LA patients work in jobs that don’t make it easy to leave for medical appointments. Dr. Mehran J. Khorsandi and Dr. Moinakhtar Lala have practiced cardiology and vascular medicine for more than thirty years and performed over 15,000 procedures together. You see one of them for the entire visit, the imaging is read with you in the room, and the visit summary goes back to your AltaMed, White Memorial, or community clinic provider the same day.
Find out the cause of your heart condition.
The East LA patients we see most often come in with one of three concerns: chest pressure that’s starting to limit work, leg cramping from peripheral artery disease that’s been blamed on long hours on foot, or follow-up after an ER visit at White Memorial for a heart-related complaint. Our team can perform a cardiac evaluation — exam, EKG, echocardiogram, vascular ultrasound — in a single visit at our Beverly Hills office, about 20 minutes west on the 10. For East LA patients we book early-morning slots so the round trip doesn’t cost a full day off work.
East Los Angeles Cardiac Specialists
Both cardiologists are board-certified and fellowship-trained, with research published in the same journals their academic peers cite. For our East LA patients the meaningful difference is logistical: a short drive, a doctor who speaks with you directly, time to ask the questions you actually came in with, and a written plan you can hand back to your primary care clinic that day.
Be prepared.
White Memorial Medical Center on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue is the closest ER for most East LA residents and the place most local cardiac emergencies end up. LAC+USC Medical Center is the next closest. Both can stabilize an acute event. Neither offers the outpatient cardiology follow-up bandwidth that keeps you from going back. If you’ve been discharged in the last two weeks with instructions to see a cardiologist, that’s exactly the appointment type we hold time for. Knowing how to use an AED matters — sudden cardiac arrest survival drops about 10% for every minute without defibrillation, and East LA’s dense layout often means a delay before paramedics can navigate to the front door.
A first visit for an East LA patient runs 60 to 90 minutes. We start with your history — family heart events, current medications, what symptoms come up at what activity level — then move to the physical exam, EKG, and an echocardiogram if it’s warranted. If you’ve had imaging recently at White Memorial or LAC+USC, bring the disc; we’d rather review your existing scans than order new ones. The Beverly Hills office is at 8741 Alden Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90048. From East LA, the 10 west to La Brea is the most direct route — about 20 minutes outside peak traffic.

Trust Your Heart to Our Expert Care
Latino adults in LA County carry roughly 50% higher rates of type 2 diabetes than the county average, and diabetes pulls cardiovascular risk up across the board — coronary disease, peripheral artery disease, kidney involvement. Most of our East LA patients come in with one risk factor already named by a primary care provider and a second or third uncovered during the cardiology workup. The flip side: catching hypertension, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol together while symptoms are mild lets us manage with medications and lifestyle change instead of procedures.
High blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease. About half of Americans (47%) have at least one of these three risk factors.
